Facts for Facebook Fundraising

It’s no secret that Facebook is a widely used and extremely well-known social media platform. But did you know that your nonprofit can offer fellow Facebook users the ability to donate to your nonprofit right from your Facebook page or create a fundraiser for your organization?

The Facebook Donate button, which is easily viewed and accessed from mobile devices, is available to US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits registered with the IRS that have a registered bank account.

The fine print: If a nonprofit signs up directly with Facebook’s fundraising tools (which incurs a 5% fee), the organization becomes eligible for a bi-weekly payout. Donations to organizations not registered with Facebook’s fundraising tools are distributed through the Network for Good‘s donor advised fund (incurring a 3.5% fee).

Facebook users can also create a fundraiser for your organization, if you have signed up with Facebook’s fundraising tools. This feature (also accessible to US-based nonprofits) allows users to create a dedicated Facebook page, raising awareness for your organization while giving users the ability to make a donation.
