David H. King — President & CEO
David H. King, President & CEO of Alexander Haas, has lived in Atlanta nearly 35 years and been in the field of nonprofit development for more than 30 years. Since joining Alexander Haas in 1990, David has provided counsel to hundreds of organizations in the areas of higher education, independent schools, hospitals, conservation, human services, churches and faith-based organizations.
Arthur L. Criscillis, Ed.D. — Managing Partner, Higher Education
As Managing Partner at Alexander Haas, Arthur L. Criscillis, Ed.D., leads the firm’s higher education practice. Arthur has almost 30 years of experience in higher education and consulting. In higher education, Arthur led the advancement programs for Purdue University College of Science, Rhodes College and Centre College. Arthur moved from advancement work for colleges and universities into consulting for the opportunity to work with and for a wide variety of colleges and universities.

Arthur’s clients—current and former—range from large universities (Auburn, Florida State, Kansas State, Kent State, University of Maine, South Carolina, University of Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas Tech) to smaller, liberal arts colleges (Berea, Harvey Mudd, Hendrix, Millsaps, Texas Lutheran, Wofford). His clients also include colleges/schools within larger universities (University of Kentucky College of Engineering, Broad College of Business, McCombs School of Business, Marshall School of Business, Robinson College of Business), as well as a broad variety of public and private universities (Arkansas Tech, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky University, Gannon University, Kent State, Lipscomb University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Troy, University of Northern Iowa, University of Tampa). His work for clients runs the full range, including advancement assessments, feasibility studies, campaign consulting, and training for staff, academic leaders and volunteers. He has worked on successful campaigns ranging from $20 million to more than $1 billion.
Consistently garnering the highest accolades for his speaking, including the CASE Crystal Apple Award, Arthur has chaired the CASE Conference on Major Gift Solicitation six times and the CASE Conference on Successful Annual Giving Strategies two times. He has also served as faculty for the CASE Summer Institute on Educational Fundraising. Arthur has spoken at the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education annual conference and the Canadian Association of Independent School Development Officers annual conference, as well as many CASE District conferences. Arthur has been named a CASE Laureate, a community of senior volunteers who have provided invaluable service to CASE and to the mission of advancing education to transform lives and society.
Arthur holds an undergraduate degree from the University of the Cumberlands and a doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University.
Carl Hamm joined Alexander Haas in 2019 after serving for 8 years as the Deputy Director for Development and External Affairs at the Saint Louis Art Museum, where he completed the museum’s $145 million campaign at $160 million. He has 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector in development, marketing and executive positions. Carl has worked with organizations representing practically every discipline of the arts, from public radio and chamber music to theater, ballet and the visual arts. Before moving to St. Louis, he served as Senior Vice President for the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, where he created and completed an $80 million campaign to construct a new museum campus in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. He also directed annual giving programs for Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and the Dallas Museum of Art, where he played a leadership role in the museum’s $200 million campaign.

Hamm has served on numerous boards and professional committees and spoken on fundraising and marketing in a variety of settings, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) International Conference in San Diego, the Direct Marketing Association’s Non-Profit Day in New York, the Art Museum Development Association, the national conference for PBS affiliate stations, and numerous national conferences for the American Alliance of Museums.
A current member of the editorial review board for Giving USA and the Texas Association of Museums board, Hamm is a past president of the Art Museum Development Association, a past chair of the American Alliance of Museums’ Standing Professional Committee on Development and Membership (DAM), and a past chair of AAM’s Council of Standing Professional Committees.
Jerry W. Henry — Managing Partner, Faith Based and Human Services
With over 40 years of experience with a wide-range of non-profit institutions, Jerry provides counsel on a daily-basis to a diverse body of clients including educational institutions, human service groups, cultural institutions and faith-based organizations.
Tara Jones, Ph.D., CFRE — Associate Partner
Tara Jones serves Alexander Haas as an Associate Partner, bringing with her nearly 20 years of experience in higher education advancement. In addition to her work at Alexander Haas, she serves as a connector for university fundable initiatives at Auburn University, where she works with various programs to develop and execute plans to raise capital for new initiatives.
Sandra K. Kidd — Senior Partner
Sandra joined the Alexander Haas team in 2005. She provides a wide range of services to clients, including campaign strategy studies, development assessments, campaign and fundraising counsel, and board and staff development. Her areas of expertise cover campaign planning and management, working with Boards and campaign leadership committees, and major and planned giving consultation. She also has worked with organizations on strategic planning, internal operations and systems review and design, and financial modeling for their organizations.
Jane DiFolco Parker serves as a Partner to Alexander Haas. In this role Jane brings the experience and expertise acquired from a 48-year career in higher education to organizations large and small. Jane’s diverse background in both public and private institutions, alumni relations, academic administration and as the leader of large development organizations gives her a broad prospective on the opportunities and challenges that face development teams, leaders, and the organizations they serve. This background allows Jane to view each challenge through a variety of lenses and help craft customized strategies and solutions for her clients.
Nancy E. Peterman, as Partner, assists universities, schools, healthcare, animal welfare, and religious organizations to achieve results and pursue their missions. In her role as Partner at Alexander Haas, Nancy provides a wide variety of fundraising services including, campaign strategy studies, development assessments, campaign and fundraising counsel, and board and staff development.
David T. Shufflebarger — Senior Partner
Shuff has counseled more than 175 clients across all sectors of the philanthropic community since joining the Alexander Haas in 1994 after serving 25 years in advancement leadership roles at Virginia Military Institute, Old Dominion University, and Valdosta State University. The largest part of his practice has been in higher education.
Kevin Smyrl – Associate Partner
Kevin Smyrl brings nearly 25 years of fundraising experience at various organizations including local grassroots non-profit organizations, professional athlete based foundations, and higher education institutions. Kevin has experience in principal and major gift fundraising, board development, volunteer management, campaign management and execution, alumni relations, annual fund, and constituent engagement. He has served in roles ranging from executive director of grassroots organizations and athlete based foundations to vice president of development in higher education.

Kevin has spent the majority of his career in higher education. Beginning in 2006 as the Director of Development at Oxford College of Emory University, he was promoted in 2007 to the Assistant Dean/Chief Development Officer and served in this role until 2012. Kevin then served as Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta where he managed the successful “Our Time” campaign. Kevin returned to Oxford College in 2014 as Associate Dean and Chief Development Officer where he has presided over the most successful fundraising years in the college’s history, including multiple record breaking years. Also, during Kevin’s tenure Oxford College of Emory University received the largest philanthropic gifts in the college’s history from foundations and from individual donors.
A native of Atlanta, Kevin received his bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University. He volunteers his time at his parish, St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church, where he serves on the finance council and advises in parish fundraising efforts. Also, he formerly served as a member of the International Laity Committee for the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette. Kevin and his wife Lisa have two teenaged children; Philip and Katherine and live in Madison, Georgia.
When not at work Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, they are usually enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, especially fishing and water sports. Kevin is also an avid golfer, and has a passion for outdoor grilling.
Jeffrey M. Smythe – Associate Partner
Jeffrey M. Smythe serves Alexander Haas as an Associate Partner. Jeff’s expertise includes growing various sized nonprofit organizations into mature best in class organizations. He has also led capital, annual and capacity-building campaigns and has extensive experience in strategic planning and board development. During his nearly thirty years of experience in nonprofit leadership, he served in chief executive and chief development roles, catalyzing double- or triple-digit growth throughout his career.
As a Partner at Alexander Haas, Inc., John applies his extensive background in development to serve a wide variety of clients. For over 30 years, he has served as a leader in the field of advancement, campaign management, and board development and has helped nonprofit organizations around the world to enhance the operational aspects of advancement and assist them with strategic and campaign planning, preparation and execution.
Jarrad Howard — Project Director
Jarrad Howard, Project Director, brings his passion for non-profits and the arts to Alexander-Haas. With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from Brenau University, and as a member of the Gainesville Theatre Alliance, Jarrad’s background in music and theatre led him to development and fundraising. As a capstone to his degree, he worked side by side with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to coordinate and execute a highly successful benefit for the organization. After graduating, Jarrad worked with Atlanta’s Academy Theatre and charter schools in the metro Atlanta area as a development liaison.

Jarrad is a member of the Atlanta chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). He is also a board member of Georgia Thespians, a division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), and an advisory board member of For the Kid in All of Us, an organization dedicated to bridging communities to brighten the lives of Georgia’s children in need.
In addition to his non-profit involvement, Jarrad is also an accomplished pianist and music director/vocal coach for area high schools and theatre companies. In his free time, he enjoys playing racquetball, trying new restaurants and day trips.
Ed Hohlbein — Systems/Reports Specialist
Ed Hohlbein brings a BFA from Central Michigan University, an MFA from the University of Georgia, a background in teaching, and 17 years of experience with nonprofit organizations prior to his work with Alexander Haas. In addition to working as a Database Administrator, Grant Researcher and Writer, Major Gifts Officer, and Executive Director, Ed has provided consulting and coaching on The Raiser’s Edge and other nonprofit systems to development teams nationwide. His multidisciplinary approach to nonprofit development and the systems that inform those development efforts has been described as the perfect blend of art and data and has helped organizations to collectively raise millions. In addition, his work as a university professor has impacted the lives of students throughout Georgia.
Holly Caswell King — Business Manager
Atlanta native Holly Caswell King has been a team member of Alexander Hass since 1992. She currently serves as Business Manager for the firm. Prior to this role, she served as Managing Partner of Alexander Haas–Team Atlanta.

Her first position with the company was in campaign management and direction. Later, she broadened her experience in fundraising through philanthropic sectors while serving as Director of Individual Giving for the High Museum of Art and then Director of Development at The Nature Conservancy of Georgia. After taking a brief sabbatical to raise her two children, Holly returned to the firm in 2008 to lead its Atlanta presence.
Her past involvement within the Atlanta community includes volunteering at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta where she co-chaired the church’s $4 million Annual Campaign in addition to serving on the Legacy Giving Committee. Holly also served on the capital campaign committee that raised monies for the new Middle School at St. Martin’s Episcopal School, where her children attended. She has served on the boards of Marist Mother’s Prayer Group (MMPG), the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA at Buckhead, Friends (a community volunteer organization of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta), The Samaritan Counseling Center of Atlanta, Association of Fundraising Professionals /Atlanta and the Environmental Fund for Georgia. Past community service includes Covenant House Georgia and The Shepherd Center. Before becoming a wife and mom, she served as Youth Advisor for her childhood church, Northwest Presbyterian Church.
Holly now regularly attends the contemporary worship at Peachtree Presbyterian Church and is a small group leader in their women’s Bible study (WCBS). She serves on the founding board for Praying for the Next Generation and instrumental in establishing its presence at Florida State University where her children currently attend.
Holly is a graduate of Sweet Briar College in Virginia. She spent her junior year in college studying aboard in Aix-en-Provence, France with Vanderbilt University. Her passion for fundraising began while working as a student intern in Sweet Briar’s Office of Development.
Holly and her husband, David, have two children, Caswell and Caroline. They continue to reside in Atlanta and enjoy spending time at Lake Keowee, St. Simons Island, playing tennis, traveling, and watching Florida State football!
Pressley’s love of writing shows in her work as Alexander Haas’ independent writing consultant. She uses language to inspire people to give, purchase or act, and she meets client expectations in substance, deadline and budget. Pressley’s writing fortes include marketing collateral (brochures, direct mail), digital content (case studies, product profiles, press materials) and specialty fundraising collateral (case for support).
